Ironing Warrior

Meticulous (mu'tikyulus) - [adj] marked by extreme care in treatment of details

Have you ever met a person so involved with the pursuit of details? I have a fair amount of friends/family and have started to learn their habits. Some of them you could consider flat out lazy, others may take some appreciation on the steps they make, and lastly there is this group that is over-and-beyond dogmatic and almost spiritual when it comes to organization and attention to detail.

As a child, I can remember my grandmother and the process she would take when ironing her clothes. Every collar would be pressed, every pocket taunt. This woman would arrange her wardrobe by color, season, and have a proper drawer or section deemed for them. One day I recall walking in as she ironed and was almost befuddled at what I saw. This tidy and meticulous woman was ironing her socks.

The other day, I noticed something small that a friend had made to make their life easier. The attention to detail and arrangement of focal points was flat out impressive. In the past I wondered why certain people took the extra time to go above and beyond on even the smallest things. It made me think.

Should we compromise on detail and the input we do on even the small things, merely because of the amount of time we think we have? I think the majority of people even I, get to a point where we say to ourselves, “that’s good enough.” But is it?

I am not saying we all should start ironing our socks. Shoot, apart of me tells myself that old Granny used to do that because she didn’t know how to use the dryer. Not likely…

I just think we neglect the details sometimes and see that much of our success and happiness starts with the tiniest things.

I commend those that go the extra mile, the so called ‘Ironing Warrior’.
